Insurance Information

Health Insurance:

Currently, there are a few local insurance companies that provide coverage for acupuncture only. These include HMAA, UHA, and HMA. Only HMAA does not exclude diagnosis.

Hawaii Electricians Union provides coverage for both naturopathic care as well as acupuncture services. Full payment is required at the time of service and the claim will be filed on your behalf or you can file this yourself if you require speedier reimbursement.

UHA and HMA only cover acupuncture for musculoskeletal pain. eg low back pain, ankle sprain, shoulder pain. If you have insurance through these companies and have another issue you would like to seek treatment for, you are most welcome and are responsible for the entire office fee.

IMPORTANT information for those insured through HMAA, HMA and UHA:

Dr Tan is dual licensed in Naturopathic Medicine and Acucpuncture. She is a provider ONLY as an Acupuncturist. Her Initial Office Visit is $165 and Return Visits are $95. (subject to change without notice) If you are insured through HMAA, UHA or HMA, you will be responsible for the Acupuncture copay as well as the balance of her fees listed above.

AAT treatments are not a covered procedure.

HMSA, Kaiser, Medicare or Medicaid do not cover naturopathic care or acupuncture services. Dr Tan is not a provider for these companies. If you have Kaiser and ASHN, we will provide you with the bill and you can submit it directly to ASHN directly for out of network payment.

Some mainland insurance companies will cover naturopathic services and acupuncture. These can include United Healthcare, SAMBA. Please check with your specific plan. You will still be responsible for full payment at the time of service and the claim will either be filed on your behalf or you can file this yourself.

Auto Insurance:

If you were in an auto accident, your insurance will cover 30 visits total of naturopathic or acupuncture care for the treatment of injuries related to the accident.
